They say, “Good riddance to bad rubbish!”
I wholeheartedly agree
But woe is me, I’m not so great
At “taking out the trash”
Should be a simple thing
But, no
First, I have to separate
What can be recycled
What can not
Can it be repurposed?
Then, there is the question
What can be composted?
Is any of this reusable?
Does it have any purpose
That perhaps I might be
Missing?
And that missing -- that is a clue
A reason for hanging on
Yes, hanging on - to things
That should already be gone
There is also the act
Of fitting as much in that can
As is humanly possible
Stamping it down
Making room for MORE
More garbage
More waste
Hanging onto the garbage
That’s already in the bag
A little longer
Long enough to fit in more trash
Not anymore - or at least not this time
There is nothing I want to examine
Recycle, reuse, repurpose, compost?
No, no
It’s all getting kicked to the curb
The time is ripe
For a clean sweep
To “Put trash in its place”
